About me
Hi! My name is Zoe Bernardi and I'm a recent graduate of the University of Michigan (B.A. Psychology & Minor in Writing). My goal with this project was to engage with my personal writing in a novel and engaging way, such that others can both relate and gain new insights they can employ in their own writing. Outside of pursuing academic endeavors such as this one, I enjoy writing poetry, reading, crocheting, spending time with friends, cooking, and playing in the rain.
I am planning to pursue a law degree (JD) and explore the realm of self-publishing my poetry post-graduation!
About the Project
This project is very near and dear to my heart. Having poured hours of research and writing into the creation of this website, I am elated to finally release her out into the world. This project is a convergence of my skills as a Psychology major and Writing minor, engaging in independent research to further my knowledge of expressive writing (about which you will soon learn lots!). I first explored my personal journals through a thematic content analysis—a research method in which I am strongly trained. During my 3rd year, I completed a content analysis on the heterosexual script as it exists within the television show Modern Family. In the Summer prior to my senior year, I began work on an independent content analysis of strategies that older and younger adults used during a working memory task, drawing from a previous study done in the lab (Cognition and Aging Lab, University of Michigan). In the following weeks, I conducted an experiment where I engaged with different kinds of expressive writing, finding what worked best for me and gaining a more nuanced understanding of what might work well for others. Using that information—and my ongoing collection of research materials—I formulated multiple types of guides and workshops for readers to try out expressive writing for themselves!
