The Optimist's Guide

This is a great technique for guiding daily journaling as well; you can never have too much positive reinforcement!

Timeline: One sitting

Task: Write continuously about your chosen event or experience, making a conscious effort to avoid all negative language, even though you are discussing a negative event.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Don’t let journaling cause you to live in your head

  • Don’t let journaling turn you into a passive observer of your own life

  • Don’t get too caught up in your own issues that you ignore everything else in your life

  • Journaling is not a chance to engage in self-blame and self-pity, rather about finding solutions and pushing ahead
